It is really sickening to see the electronic media giving wide publicity to swine flu deaths in the country, creating panic in general public. As one of doctors commented in private, 'we see more deaths due to malaria in our country as compared to those due to H1N1 flu. But we do not give such mad publicity to deaths due to malaria. Then why so much panic about H1N1?' This quite true and there is time when media should exercise restraints.
On the other hand, it is our experience that generally the Indian government does not realise the emergencies in actions unless things are blown out of proportion. It is only because of media hunt that many thins such as shortage of testing labs and material, shortage of Tamiflu, blac-marketing of masks, etc have come to light. When would our government learn to act on its own rather than simply reacting to media news?
